Professional Development

Our teacher-consultants (TCs) are local educators who have participated in a rigorous summer leadership institute. Trained to provide targeted professional development about writing teaching, TCs can meet with you and your faculty, offer workshops and resources, teach demo lessons, and provide peer coaching and ongoing teacher support. Camps and Opportunities for Youth

Imaginative Creative Explorers (ICE): that's the name the first group of campers came up with 17 years ago when TBAWP's youth programs began.
I.C.E. is a unique camp. There may be other Creative Writing camps, but our model is wholly original (no really, we鈥檝e been to conferences! We鈥檙e one-of-a-kind.) I.C.E. is open to students going into third grade all the way up to students going into their senior year of High School. It is our mission to provide camps that are fun, offer new experiences and present opportunities to build new friendships. I.C.E. Writers鈥 Camp was created to provide an environment in which writers feel safe to explore their abilities and receive feedback on the writing process from their peers and Tampa Bay Area Writing Project Consultants. Please note that this is not a remedial camp; rather it is fast-paced and vigorous with lessons that are in-depth and challenging.
Each session is two weeks long, Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Tuition is $400. Every camper will receive a t-shirt, a copy of the anthology, and a renewed love of writing.
Opportunities for Teachers

Summer Leadership Institute (SLI)
The SLI is an experience that occurs at National Writing Project sites across the country; participation in the SLI means you join the ranks of thousands of 鈥渢eacher consultants鈥 who have accepted the challenge to become leaders in their own teaching communities.
During the SLI, teachers convene to write and share their writing, to share and discuss their teaching, and to reflect deeply on the craft of writing/teaching. The reasons: we learn best how to support writing/teaching through our own transformative experiences with writing; and we believe in the power of 鈥渢eachers teaching teachers.鈥
This year, the Summer Leadership Institute will meet online for three weeks (July 6 - July 24, 2026, not including weekends). Each day of the SLI will include individual (asynchronous) writing time and group (synchronous) meeting time. On Fridays, we will have the option to meet face-to-face in beautiful locations for communal writing.
Group time will include opportunities to receive peer feedback and to participate in demonstration lessons given by graduates of previous SLIs. Group times will be decided based on availability: when we can commit to meet as a whole group or in small groups. For example, some peer feedback groups might commit to meet daily in the morning or the evening.
NWP: Write Now Teacher Studio
